Chicago Area LECET
Responsible Bidder Ordinance Campaign
Chicago-Area LECET has developed an ongoing public education and legislative campaign around responsible bidder ordinances. The measures ensure that Laborers and their signatory contractors can compete fairly for public works projects, while protecting the quality and safety of public construction. They require all contractors wishing to bid on particular projects to meet certain standards for training, safety, past performance, and other intangibles. Chicago-Area LECET has promoted these ordinances to public contracting bodies throughout the city of Chicago and its neighboring counties.
As part of the campaign, Chicago-Area LECET developed several public policy resources and advertisements, including:
- A comprehensive policy booklet including background on responsible bidding, sample ordinances, letters of endorsement, and relevant case law
- A brochure promoting responsible bidder ordinances
- A radio commercial promoting responsible bidder ordinances to the general public
- A radio advertisement targeting elected officials and candidates
- A radio advertisement comparing the absence of responsible bidder ordinances to a slow leak
- A dedicated page on Chicago-Area LECET’s website.
