Construction Skills 2000
Greater New York LECET actively participates in a workforce development program called Construction Skills 2000.
This is a joint training/apprenticeship program with the Building Trades in New York and three governmental agencies - NYC Board of Education, the School Construction Authority and the Port Authority on New York and New Jersey.
LECET was instrumental in developing a program designed to acquaint prospective candidates, for entrance to the Construction Skills 2000 programs with the opportunities available through LIUNA. Presentations are given to classes of vocational high school students, contractor associations and individual contractors who are interested in apprenticeship opportunities.
The program as stated is geared towards vocational schools, separated military personnel and developing workforces in communities where union membership has traditionally been underrepresented.
LECET has developed a brochure package, which highlights the jurisdictional work of LIUNA in New York and is used for presentational purposes when reaching out to potential workforce candidates. Emphasis is placed particularly on the quality of the Mason Tenders District Council Center.
Besides giving presentations to vocational high schools, community boards in specific communities are targeted, as are other non-traditional trade schools and school boards.
